IV. Analysis article.
After more than ten years in the early 20th century, the modernization period with famous patriotic works of Phan Chau Trinh, Phan Boi Chau, etc., our country’s literature entered a period of extremely exciting transformation. motion. From the 20s onwards, on the literary forum appeared writers who boldly innovated both content and literary form. They combine the beauties of tradition with the innovative requirements of the times, composing unique poetic works bearing the breath of a class of people rich in ambition, patriotism, love of life, but stuck. ..
One of the people who started this literary line was the poet Tan Da. Tan Da has composed many works that can only be read by name, we can also see the originality, full of dream and romance: Child Love Block I, II, III, Big Dream, Little Dream,… In The poetry collection Block Love Children has the poem “Want to be Cuoi” which is considered by many to be the most unique. That’s right. Through the title of the work and a few minutes of initial reading and understanding, we have felt the unique beauty of the poem.
Is this an odd, out-of-the-ordinary wish, or is it a wild, welcoming, romantic dream? Wanting to be Cuoi means you want to fly to the moon, want to escape from earthly life to live with the moon, stars, and fairyland? Why does the poet have such a wish? What does that desire mean?… So many interesting and interesting questions attract us.
It is also a seven-word poem, according to the law of Tang poetry, also written in Nom script, but compared to many Nom poems of the medieval literary period and two poems published a few years earlier by Phan Chau Trinh, Phan Boi Chau, But the poetic soul, tone and words of Want to make Cuoi have many different features. The poem has a gentle, elegant tone mixed with a bit of witty love, with a liberal and swaggering tone of a romantic, escapist soul. The first two verses (in the title) are lamentations of sadness and boredom of a poet, an earthly person:
Very sad autumn night, Mrs. Hang!
I’m half bored in this world now,
The unique feature is that the two personal pronouns “sister” and “em” sound very graceful. Humanizing the moon, then feminizing the moon, called by the name Hang (in the words of many old poets – Hang Nga – a Hang), accompanied by the pronoun “sister”, calling herself “em”, the poet creates create an unexpected, intimate but rustic relationship, the right relationship to confide in and share feelings. The poet’s feelings are expressed directly in two words expressing sadness and boredom.
Sadness in the autumn night is a familiar mood of ancient artists. Because, autumn comes, bringing with it a chilly autumn breeze, a gentle autumn wind, autumn trees wither, waiting for the day to die,… So many national poets from Nguyen Trai to Nguyen Du, from Ho Xuan Huong to Ba Huyen Thanh Quan, then Nguyen Khuyen, Tu Xuong, etc., once absorbed the sadness of autumn and then wet the lines of poetry.
As a talented and sensitive poet, before autumn, Tan Da must have absorbed the soul of earth and sky, withered trees and sad lines of literature and poets. It is a romantic sadness, gentle, wistful, as if without reason, it is predestined. As for the “half-bored” mood, it’s no longer an artist-style gratuitous romance. It was the worldly boredom of a soul that used to worry for the country and the people in the poverty of slavery. Autumn night… sad, together with the world… bored, the natural sceneries of heaven and earth, plus the dark and miserable life, prompted the poet to lament, to find someone to share. Maybe I haven’t found anyone worthy of me yet, so I’ll spend my time looking up to the clouds, the sky, the moon and stars. In the vast night sky, perhaps even the moon looks like a soulmate. Because the moon is bright, round, kind, carefree, speechless, and full of sensuality.
Under his eyes, rather through his sensitive and affectionate heart, poet Tan Da saw in the moon the image of a beauty who could make a soul mate. The poet calls the moon “sister” – “sister Hang”, honoring the interlocutor as “sister”, recognizing herself as “em” very skillfully, skillful in behavior (if “sister Hang” is real) and skillful in her actions. poetic guide. Appearing after two lines of invocation-like structure, the lament is a sincere and earnest wish that cannot be refused by listeners and people who are relied on, and poetry readers can’t stop either. Up to four real sentences and essays, wishes, and supplications become a unique dream:
Cunq cinnamon has anyone sitting there pregnant?
Her most exalted spike please play.
Pregnant, have friends to feel sorry for,
With the wind, with the same clouds, it’s fun.
In terms of the law of layout and symmetry, the four sentences above broke the law, and did not match the content of two real sentences (realistic description) and two essay sentences (inferred and expanded), each pair of sentences was also not true. each other in words and meanings. But reading it up, we still see that the language is fluent, the meaning is broad, the poetic soul develops naturally, and is harmoniously attached to the two opening sentences. These are the lines of innovation in the Tang Dynasty, where love is unleashed, the poet’s “me” is soar and natural.
The four lines of the poem express the voices of wishes and premonitions that are unique. The first sentence probes “Who has been sitting there pregnant?”. The second sentence, without waiting for a reply, immediately proposed, and begged boldly, “The banyan tree, please remind me to play”. The images of “cinnamon bow”, “banana branch”, “who is sitting there” evoke many myths about “Quang Han palace” (the moon), about “banyan tree, Uncle Cuoi” that many Vietnamese people know. .
It’s not a human place but supernatural addresses, superhuman people in imagination, in dreams. Is it possible that, when singing those poems, poet Tan Da is lulling his soul into a dream! I have a feeling that he is getting smaller, small, tiny like the old Uncle Cuoi character clinging to the “banyan branch” to fly up, fly up to the moon, then slowly descend, sit under the banyan tree, next to Uncle Cuoi. Then a scene, an interesting picture:
Pregnant, have friends to feel sorry for,
With the wind, with the same clouds, it’s fun.
The poet reached the destination, met Hang, Uncle Cuoi, made friends with the wind and clouds. The two phrases “can chi me” and “that’s the way to be happy” clearly show the satisfied mood, forgetting all the sorrows and sufferings in the world to find the source of joy in the fairy world. The tone of the words seems to ring with a bit of humour, laughter, welcome but very affectionate.
It can be said that the poet’s romantic soul has found an ideal place to escape. Going to the moon, hiding in the clouds and the wind, Tan Da has completely avoided the “boring” life, away from the “dirty world”. But Tan Da’s wish is not entirely to run away and avoid. Those are the dreams, the genuine aspirations of a person who is always attached to the move, always wants his life in general and his life in particular to have joy and happiness, to meet kind friends. , truly love. The poet once lamented:
Around the rocks and trees,
Know where to find a soul mate
And had a dream:
In your next life, please don’t be human.
Make a pair of swallows that fly in the sky.
With the wish of wanting to be Cuoi, that righteous aspiration encounters a dream of a polymorphic soul, becoming a somewhat arrogant, arrogant, romantic way of saying it. Bored of life, sad in autumn, now be able to stand side by side with the beautiful Hang Nga, have fun with the clouds and wind, what could be more interesting and how can you still be lonely and sad! Tan Da’s romantic inspiration bears the stamp of the times and goes further than the ancients is there. The imprint of the times and the long-range in Tan Da’s poetry is pushed one step further, unexpectedly in the two closing sentences of the poem:
Then, every year on the full moon of August,
Looking down at the world smiling.
On a mid-autumn night, when the moon is bright, people raise their heads to admire the moon and stars, treasure the sky, the poet is sitting forever on the moon leaning on the shoulder of the beautiful Hang Nga looking down, admiring the world, then laughing. Why does the poet laugh? Maybe because the dream has been achieved, the desire to escape, away from the mundane world, should be satisfied, laughing. It is also possible that because of standing at a high position, above all small and low life habits, the poet clearly sees the ugly, dirty, laughable, and despicable things of the small, narrow world.
It can also be full of self-deprecating laughter, self-mockery … playing foolishly, over life, different life. A smiley word that opens two or three meanings, it’s interesting. Are the two closing verses, especially the last word of the poem (“laughing”), the culmination of Tan Da’s romantic poetic soul, liberal, welcoming but very charming and amorous style.
In short, the article Want to be Cuoi is the confession of a person who is deeply at odds with the mediocre and evil society, who wants to escape by dreaming of going to the moon to befriend Hang, having fun with the clouds. It was a wonderful, welcoming, romantic dream. The charm of the poem is in the beauty of that dream, which is reflected in the words and images of the national character, and in Tan Da’s innovative explorations of the apocalyptic poetic form of Tang Luat.
Thanks to innovations in poetry and art research, poet Tan Da has contributed to opening an exciting and exciting period of innovation for the history of modern Vietnamese poetry, just like researcher Hoai Thanh. commented: “He shared with us a passionate desire, the desire to escape from the bondage, the falsehood, the aridity of the cliché… He played the piano pieces. the beginning of an upcoming neo-contemporary concert…”.
