Analysis
Topic: Analysis of the article “Title “Extracting Diem Thi Tap” by Hoang Duc Luong.
After a great victory over the Ming invaders, the people of Dai Viet entered a period of peace and national construction. Poetic works from previous centuries have been collected and printed into books by some people. Scholar Hoang Duc Luong has selected good poems from the Tran to the Le dynasties, named it “Tem Diem thi thuep”, he directly wrote the foreword for this book to introduce to readers.
Title is an article placed at the beginning of a book, written by the author himself or another person (usually someone knowledgeable about the book’s content) invited by the author to write. The Preface usually states the writer’s point of view on issues related to the book. For example, the reason and method of making a book, the characteristics of the book, etc. In the past, when literary criticism was not yet developed, the Titles often performed this function. About the short length, there are articles a few pages long, if introduced meticulously; There are articles with only a few dozen lines, if briefly introduced.
Let’s try to analyze the “Title” of Hoang Duc Luong’s “Titre Diem Thiet” to better understand what a Title is?
At the beginning of the title, the author points out the reasons why poetry is not widely circulated.
The first reason is due to the characteristic of poetry that is picky about readers. A delicious dish, a beautiful piece of brocade, ordinary people can feel and enjoy. When it comes to literature and poetry, it is beauty beyond beauty, deliciousness beyond deliciousness, cannot be seen by ordinary eyes, and tasted by ordinary mouth. Only poets can see and know the beauty of eating and know the delicious taste. It means that poetry is only reserved for the intelligentsia who make up the minority in society.
The second reason is that the collection and dissemination of poetry is hardly considered necessary by many. The famous people who work as big officials in the bureaucracy, or because they are busy with work and do not have time to edit, and the low-ranking officials and those who have trouble returning to the faculty, do not pay attention.
The third reason is that sometimes, there are people who like poetry and literature, but are afraid because of their heavy work and poor talent, so they can only do it halfway and then quit.
The fourth reason is the strict management of the imperial court. Poetry and literature, if not ordered by the king, do not dare to engrave boards to circulate.
Therefore, the author finds it necessary to collect, compile and introduce valuable poems to widely circulate, in order to preserve the cultural quintessence of the nation. It is a legitimate job, stemming from the author’s enthusiasm and enthusiasm for the country. There is a close logical relationship between Hoang Duc Luong’s thoughts and actions. Because of the four reasons mentioned above, after several long dynasties, even strong objects such as stone and gold, but were protected by ghosts and gods, were still broken and sunk. What’s more, the manuscript left behind, the fragile piece of paper in the box, and how many times can it be kept without being torn to pieces?
The author also expressed his frustration. This Duc Luong learned to write poetry, relying only on the poetry of the emperors of the Tang dynasty, but like the poetry of the Ly – Tran dynasties, it could not be studied anywhere. Every time I picked up a piece of paper, the wall broke a few sentences, often holding a book to lament, intending to blame the sage and gentleman at that time. Alas! A civilized country, built for hundreds of years. Is it possible that there is no book that can be used as a basis, but we have to look far away to study poetry and literature of the Tang Dynasty. Isn’t that so pitiful! In that confession, there is both national pride and sadness about the things that have not been done to honor the nation’s long-standing culture.
All these factors urge the author to boldly do it, even though he knows his abilities are limited: I don’t measure myself, want to correct old mistakes, forget that old books are no longer available, responsibility heavy but meager talent, searched around and asked around, but the number of poems collected was only one or two out of thousands of poems.
Then he gave a brief introduction to the structure of the book. I also collected more poems of the people who are currently serving as mandarins in the court, selected good ones, divided them into categories, got 6 books, named the book “Tem diem thiet”. At the end of these books, I take the liberty of adding clumsy articles written by me, in order to serve as a family book.
At the end of the title song, Hoang Duc Luong expressed his sincere wish: Then those who like to comment on poetry will spread it widely, perhaps avoiding the criticism of later people, just like now we criticize the ancients. .
Thus, the title of the book “Extracting Diem Thi Tap” has met the requirements for the form and content of a general title mentioned at the beginning of this article.
